Blind people or those having poor eye sight cannot learn alphabet as easily as others do by copy writing. For those guys someone has to make them write and with the movement of the hand they can learn. This herculean task is now made easy by a RoboPen named PHANTOM OMNI.

PHANTOM Omni haptic device Its a Haptic device which simulates a pen in 3D free space with the help of a software called VTK Designer. It is developed by SensAble Technologies which is a company evolved from undergraduate research done at MIT in the 1990s by industry pioneers Thomas Massie and Dr. Kenneth Salisbury, and is headquartered in Woburn, MA. It can be well used to guide the hands of the blind to make them learn not only alphabet but any piece of drawing. When tested on 8 blind students, within 20min of practice they could easily write.

In the real world the user holds in his/her hand a pen attached to a mechanical arm placed on the top of the desk. The arm design enables the user to maneuver without being disturbed by the equipment weight. The physical pen being held by the user is translated into its virtual counterpart rendered on the screen. The virtual pen follows the movements of the physical one and when the virtual pen collides with virtual objects appropriate forces are sent to the physical pen and its guides the user accordingly. It can also alarm the user by sending audio signals on how and where to steer the pen.

Spam mail is well known to all email users. Targeting this spam on a large scale on a network and making it to halt is nothing but Distributed Denial of Service(DDoS). The name distributed is give coz the attack is done from different computers. This attack can be performed on a Routing web, E-mail, Domain name system servers etc.,

A DDoS attack causes different types of loses to the network. The foremost effect is the denial of any further traffic to the network because of the overload.Unable to cope with the huge incoming traffic which is much more than the victim's handling capacity, the servers usually give up their service and get to an halt and won't let any more traffic or request to that network.

ddos

This attack can also be done targeting on some particular sites making it inaccessible for some users under a network. DDoS attack was first traced in 1998 and now a days its a common thing happening on internet. Especially hackers and political hatred people perform this attack intending to destroy a company's site or organization. If done on a large scale with careful and precise coordination it can swipe away entire internet facility of a country.

Once DDoS attack has happened its very difficult to overcome it. So its better to fight it easy way before its started. As prevention is better than cure, its easy to prevent DDoS attack from happening by having a close check on the heavy traffic. Its better to stop the heavy spam traffic coming to the network before it overloads the network and destroys its stability and thus cause DDoS. Internet service providers are of a great help to overcome this DDoS attack.

Internet users are well familiar with this Smiley. Its used as a greeting in most of the net friendships and especially in chatting. This emoticon of a smiling face is more than 25 years old.

smiley emoticon
The original smiley and frowney emoticons which are most commonly used to signify a facial expression or emotions were invented by Scott Fahlman at CMU in 1982.
(Hey! This is 3 years older than me!)

Over the years this Smiley has gone through many incarnations but it consistently retained the same features like eyes, a mouth and occasionally a nose.

Although the first emoticons were limited to Smiley and few others, now hundreds of emoticons have been introduced for conveying almost all the emotions and facial expressions possible.

From the proposed hundreds of emotions, only few are in common use by most people. These include:

:-) ‘smiley face’ or 'happy face' happy emoticon
(for humor, laughter, friendliness, occasionally sarcasm)

:-( ‘frowney face’ (for sadness, anger, or upset)sad emoticon

;-) ‘half-smiley’ ; also known as semi-smiley or winkey face. winking emoticon

:-/ ‘wry face’ or 'confused' confused emoticon

Having the specialty of conveying emotions that cannot be easily expressed in words these emoticons have won the hearts of millions all over the world.

Yahoo survey
Few years back Yahoo conducted a survey among 40000 yahoo-messenger users which gave path to the following interesting facts on emoticons.

1) 85% of people daily use emoticons in their messages.

2) 83% of messenger users use ‘smiley face’ or 'happy face' closely followed by flirting to express happiness.

3) Survey says that 50% are interested in using emoticons to express Love.

4) 57% use emoticons to express anger.

5) Even for marriage proposals these emoticons are being used by 10% of netizens.

6) Emoticons are the favorites to the youngsters of age group 18-25. This doesn't mean elderly people are not preferring them coz the survey also reveals that 48% of netizens aged above 50years are fans of emotions.

But its often said that overuse of the smiley or other emoticons is a mark of loserhood! More than one per paragraph is a fairly sure sign that you've gone over the line.
So use them wisely.
